MANNTIS Talk About Competing In 'Battle For Ozzfest'
October 25, 2004The Press-Enterprise is reporting that Riverside, Calif.-based band MANNTIS is one of eight finalists competing for the spot on Ozzfest 2005 in MTV's "Battle for OZZfest", making its debut at 10:30 p.m. today.
MANNTIS member Adair Cobley, 20, said in a phone interview that he has attended nearly all the Ozzfests, which began at what is now the Hyundai Pavilion in Devore in 1996.
"I always wished I could have been playing music up there," he said. "I have been playing music since I was 13 and my mother was taking me to heavy-metal concerts. Ozzfest just opens up the crowd — 60,000 people — it's just the best place."
MANNTIS formed four years ago and reached its current configuration in March of this year. Four of its five members are graduates of either Arlington or La Sierra high schools — Cobley is a Colton High School grad. The band was picked as a finalist after successful interviews during an open casting call last June in Los Angeles.
In addition to a spot on the Ozzfest tour, the winning band also will get new musical gear, touring money and a possible record deal.
"You get to play alongside some of the most amazing bands," Cobley said about the prize. "It's the best opportunity an unsigned band can get, and it's an amazing thing for Sharon and Ozzy to do." Read more (free registration required).
